    Saints Row 2 Mobile

    By Shane | September 3, 2008

I wasn’t a huge fan of the “GTA clone” Saints Row for the Xbox 360 when it came out a couple of years ago. It was entertaining, but I soon lay it to rest as it just didn’t have that lasting appeal for me.

Saints Row 2 is looking promising on the 360, PS3 and PC however, and is also coming to a mobile device near you by THQ Wireless.

Expect multiple missions, activities and mini-games integrated into the game-play. You will have the ability to complete missions on foot or while driving as you battle to regain territory from rival gangs and corrupt police.

    Here are some features

    * Continue the story of the Third Street Saints and battle to regain their territory from rival gangs and corrupt police
    * Inhabit and “own” 5 large city territories by capturing enemy strongholds to help build your empire, then defend your turf against enemy gang reprisals
    * Each gang with it’s own unique style and methods; new rival gangs – the Ronin, the Sons of Samedi, and the Brotherhood
    * Complete multiple missions and mini-diversions; rob civilians, take hostages, rob shops, escape cops
    * Gain respect and recapture the city

GPS is all the rage these days for mobile phones, so it’s only natural that we see exciting 3rd party applications evolve over time. One of those technologies is location based gaming and alternative reality platforms from the folks at Wayfinder. Imagine finding the position of yourself in the world that is reflected in the game - this has tremendous opportunity. A world wide game of Risk anyone?

Wayfinder, a leading supplier of innovative location and navigation services in mobile phones, has introduced a forum where game developers can create location oriented games using Wayfinder technology.

Jonas Sellergren, VP Innovations at Wayfinder.

Astraware’s Howard Tomlinson Interview on iPwnGames

    By Shane | August 26, 2008

iPwnGames managed to snag an interview with Astraware, the makers of GTS World Racing recently. The new title has been out for a few days now and is reporting solid sales. The interview goes on to talk about downloadable content, demos and challenges.

When asked if they were planning to port more of their games over to the iPhone, Howard Tomlinson replied:

“Very much so. We’re bringing our own IP across where it makes sense, and lots of our licensors are working with us to expand to cover iPhone too. We’re also looking at revisits of some of our older games, where we reckon a new treatment for iPhone would be fun. It’s a balance between experimenting with new ideas and playing it safe with trusted games and brands.”

Ikanoid iPhone Review: Best Breakout Game

    By Shane | August 22, 2008

I wanted to talk about Ikanoid because I love the classic Breakout games. It’s an excellent style of game suited for mobile devices and I’ve played Breakout on just about every gadget including my old Sony Ericsson K750. I haven’t purchased one for my new 3G iPhone yet as I wasn’t sure which of the lot was the best. Now I know and I’m off to pick up Ikanoid thanks to Touch Arcade’s Breakout reviews.

Touch Arcade has taken the liberty of reviewing all the current Breakout-style games and has come to the conclusion that Ikanoid is the best of the bunch with its “responsiveness, great sound effects and arcade feel”. Version 1.4 is out and includes the new features such as net high scores, ability to start at an arbitrary level and background music, volume controls.

Check out all the reviews and an included video.

    By Shane | August 21, 2008

It seems like every game company out there is jumping on the iPhone/iPod Touch port wagon these days, and why shouldn’t they; the iPhone is a powerful portable game device that sells like chocolate ice cream on a hot summer day.

Pangeasoft’s Spaghetti Western, gun slinging title Billy Frontier is making the port over from the Mac with alterations to accommodate the iPhone and iPod Touch. Pangeasoft is claiming Billy Frontier, a Space Cowboy who’s mission is to rid the galaxy of alien outlaws, will be the “most diverse 3D game on the iPhone and iPod Touch”…for the time being.

Expect four mini games in one, which include: Dueling, Shootout, Stampede, and Target Practice.
